It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of our loving and devoted mother, Nook Nash, 83, of Glace Bay. Nook passed away on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 13, 2012, at the Glace Bay Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Glace Bay, Nook was the daughter of the late Walter and Edith (Hind) Dawe.
Nook was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She enjoyed playing poker, crib, bingo and her shopping skills were second to none. She also loved camping on the Mira.
Nook will be sadly missed by her loving daughters, Brenda (Clarence) Forward, Glace Bay, Valerie Nash (Andy Penney), New Glasgow,;sons, Herbert ‘Skip’ (Anna), Glace Bay, Clint (Ignace), Ontario; sister, Evelyn Shand, Halifax. Also surviving are nine cherished grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Nook was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, Herbert ‘Herb’ (Jan. 17, 2010), sisters, Gladys, Margaret, Winifred, Kathleen, Violet, Lillian, brothers, James and Richard.
Visitation for Nook will be held Tuesday, 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral service will be held Thursday, 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay, with Rev’d Fev Arnold officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.
