Denise Gorieu
1925 - 2009
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother and grandmother on Monday, December 21, 2009. Denise, who passed peacefully in her home, will always be lovingly remembered as the consummate family matriarch by those who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be graciously welcomed at the gates by her beloved husband Marcel, her sisters Helen and Florence, her brother Walter, her daughter Chantaal and her parents Georgina and Alexis Guillet. She is survived by her children, Raymond Gorieu (Simone), Mike Gorieu (Elaine), Anita Gamwell (Bob) and Gillean Shandler as well as her ten grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Denise was raised just outside of Domremy, SK and married Marcel on June 25, 1945. She had a deep love for music which she passionately fulfilled by playing the organ at various churches in her community on Sundays and at countless weddings and funerals. As a homemaker on the farm, she happily filled her days with gardening, cooking, sewing, baking, crocheting and even driving truck at harvest. With her radiant smile and her overwhelming generosity, she always had time for others, whether to advise, teach or just to listen. She enjoyed spending time camping and fishing at the lake with her grandchildren and trips south in the motor home with friends and family. She will be greatly missed here, but heaven just got the best apple pie it’s ever seen. The song may have ended, but the melody lingers on. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Fr. Tru Le, at St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, Domremy, SK on Monday, December 28, 2009 at 10:30 am. Interment will follow in the Garden of Gethsemene in Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. If friends so wish, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be graciously accepted by the family.
