It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. Margaret MacDonald of Glace Bay passed away on Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009 at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay, Margaret was the daughter of the late Arthur and Irene (Brown) MacQuarrie.
Those who knew Margaret well will remember her independent spirit and kindness to neighbours and friends. In her younger days, she was an avid skater and swimmer. She especially enjoyed being with family and spent countless hours with her grandchildren who were always a joy to her.
Margaret will be sadly missed by daughter, Karen; son-in-law, Kippy Sharpe, Birch Grove; brothers, Allan (Sue) MacQuarrie, Glace Bay, Harriet (Buddy) MacKenzie, Glace Bay. Also surviving are cherished grandchildren, Adam and Elizabeth Sharpe and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Tom of 65 years; son, Tommy; brothers, Bernard MacQuarrie and Dan, in infancy.
Visitation for Margaret MacDonald will be held Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Monday in the funeral home chapel with Martha MacDonald, C.D.M. officiating accompanied by organist Stephanie Doyle. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery.
