The world lost a shining light on December 21, 2009, as a result of a catastrophic car collision. Our precious baby boy was taken far too soon. We know he is at peace with his loved ones waiting for him in Heaven.
Drake will be forever missed by his parents, Lisa Margaret Durnford, Robert Scott (wife Paula) Farrell; sister, Darian Elizabeth Farrell, all of Ontario; maternal grandparents, Elizabeth (Nee Betty Acker) and Jabez Durnford, Port Caledonia; paternal grandmother, Barbara (Gould) Farrell, Auntie Carolyn (YoYo) Durnford, Uncle Darin and cousins, Ravin and Kendull; Uncle Jim and Aunt Marion Farrell; cousins, Brendon and Gregory, all of Ontario; as well as numerous great-aunts, great-uncles and cousins.
Drake was a friend to all who knew him. He will be missed by so many people, including girlfriend, Larissa Lauzon and best friends, Taylor Eisses and Dillon Letemplier.
Drake was predeceased by paternal grandfather George James Farrell.
Drake was born and raised for most of his young years in Ontario (Scarborough, Whitby, and Angus). He was a pleasant, intent boy who followed his dad around with a toy hammer trying to mimic the excellent craftsmanship. He was his mother’s ‘little man’ and to his Nana and Pop he was the moon and the stars.
Drake and his sister Darian were very close and would taunt each other whenever they had the opportunity. Drake and his grandparents moved to Cape Breton during his teenage years. Whenever he had the chance he would say how much he loved living there. His love of Lego and video games followed him into his young adulthood. Drake was also a talented sketch artist thanks to time spent with his “Uncle Bearâ€. He enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his great uncle in rural Cape Breton. He was a student at Memorial High School and worked at Stream during the summer of 2009. He loved hanging out with his friends.
To all who have been blessed with knowing Drake he was a funny, happy prankster who loved to joke and make others laugh. His confident, pleasant demeanor immediately put others around him at ease. On his Facebook page Drake had written a line that defined him best, “I know I am saying too much but I am the happiest guy in the worldâ€.
Family Flowers only please. A donation to any of Drake’s favorite causes, some of which included, Glace Bay Food Bank or Harvest House, Glace Bay, may be made in his memory.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral service, officiated by Rev. Vernon Reid and accompanied by organist, John Howie will take place Wednesday at 2 p.m. in St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Port Caledonia. Cremation to follow with interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Maple Avenue, Glace Bay at a later date.
Following the service, all are invited to join the family for a reception in the church hall, directly below the church.
