With broken hearts, we the family, regret to announce the passing of our loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Beverly, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Beverly lost her courageous battle on Thursday, May 24, 2012.
Born in Glace Bay she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Jessie (Campbell) Hickey, and was a member of St. Anne’s Church.
In her earlier years, Beverly was employed at the Beauty Nook in Glace Bay and later operated a hair salon out of her own home. She loved all sports and enjoyed playing baseball, basketball and bowling. She also enjoyed camping and loved spending time with her family. Beverly will mainly be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
Beverly will be sadly missed by her loving husband of 41 years, Kevin MacNeil; her children who were the pride and joy of her life, daughters, Lori (David) Wilson, New Waterford, Tanya MacNeil (Wayne Jones) Greenwood, N.S., Odelia (Rudy) Skalaa, Petawawa, Ont.; grandchildren, Kevin, Shane, Amy, Taylor, Courtney, MacKenzie, Brooke, Matthew, Madeline and Rudy; sisters, Carmel (Roddie) Jessome, Chester, N.S., Leone Egan, Yellowknife; brothers, Tom (Dianne), Glace Bay, Danny (Leona), Sydney, Peter (Angela), Dominion. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her infant son John and brother Alexander ‘Sander’ Hickey.
Visitation for Beverly will be held 7-9 p.m. Friday, May 25, 2012, in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, at St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay, with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. A reception will follow in the church foyer. Cremation will then follow with a private family interment at a later date.
Memorial donations in Beverly’s memory may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
