L. Marie Macdonald passed away at Alderwood Rest Home, Baddeck on Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009.
Born in East LaHave, she was a daughter of the late Captain Cyrus and Ada (Wamback) Walters.
Lillis was a graduate of Children’s Hospital, Halifax, and Public Health Nurse (McGill University). After marriage to Dr. Austin Macdonald, they moved to Neil’s Harbour where they helped establish Buchanan Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Greenwood United Church, Baddeck, Order of Eastern Star, Whycocomagh, Arm of Gold Seniors Club, Baddeck, and Lake View Quilters, Whycocomagh.
Surviving are her two sons, Dr. Brian and wife, Gloria, Sydney River, and Ronald and wife, Mary, Greely, Ont.; three grandchildren, Daniel, Ottawa, Roseanne and Randall, Sydney River; special niece, Madelyn Simms, Dartmouth; also nieces and nephews of the Walter and Macdonald families.
Lillis was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Austin Macdonald, in 1996, son, Robert Hugh, in 1966, Rev. G.A. and Mrs. Grant, adopted parents, following the death of her mother in 1914, sisters, Emily (Morash) and Nellie (Tobin), brothers, Watson, Melbourn, Charles and her twin brother, George.
A memorial service will be held at Greenwood United Church, Baddeck, 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, with Rev. Karen Lynch officiating. Interment in Aspy Bay United Church Cemetery at a later date.
