Russell Joseph Lever
Born In: Cheticamp, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: December 27th, 2009
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Russell passed away on Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009, at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Cheticamp he was the son of the late Simon Joseph and Evelyn (LeBrun) Lever.
He was at one time a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines. Russell was employed for more than 40 years as a mechanic in the Toronto area, retiring in 2004. At this time he and his wife Agnes returned to Glace Bay where he enjoyed golfing, and fishing mackerel and smelts. Russell was a very gentle man by nature, he was never angry, never had a bad word to say about anyone, and had a wonderful sense of humour. He will always be remembered by friends, family, and neighbors as the friend they could rely on when they were having mechanical problems.
He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Agnes (Fisher); son, James, Toronto; brothers, Peter (Lorraine), Dominion, Geuard (Helen) Brandford, Ont.; sister, Margaret (James) Fahey, Reserve Mines. Also surviving is cherished granddaughter, Nichole (Gary) Harrison, and great-grandchildren, Kenneth, and Amber, all of Gorrie, Ont.
In honoring Russell’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral service will be celebrated 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, in the funeral home chapel with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Parish Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Russell’s memory may be made to the palliative care society. Online condolences to the Lever family are available through www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
