It is with deep sadness that we the family announce the passing of Viola McIntyre on Friday, Dec. 25, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Ingonish, N.S., Viola was the daughter of the late Roderick and Loretta (Williams) McIntyre.
Viola was proud of her farm in River Ryan and at one time operated her own store in downtown New Waterford. She was always a hard worker and in earlier years moved to Boston to seek employment. Viola loved to bake and thoroughly enjoyed going to dances.
She is survived by sisters, Elizabeth Gillis, Harbourstone Enhanced Care, and Margaret Moseychuck, New Waterford; several nieces and nephews; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and by her very good friend, Jean Smith.
Viola was predeceased by sons, David and Hartwell, her brother, Charles, and sisters, Mary Eldridge and Annie MacPherson.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Dec. 29 from 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. Funeral mass will be celebrated by Fr. Doug MacDonald on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009 at 10 a.m at the Parish Church of Saint Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with burial to take place in Mount Carmel Cemetery at a later date. All are welcome to a reception at the Carmel Centre following the mass.
