
Ida Pyke
It is with deep sadness we must announce the passing of Ida M. Pyke, age 90 of Springhill. Ida passed away peacefully at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Sunday, May 27, 2012, surrounded by her loving family.
Ida was born in New Canaan, NS, a daughter of the late Harley Skidmore and Elsie Walker Skidmore Beaton.
Ida came to Springhill to complete her high school. She then married her husband Pleaman and followed him throughout his air force career. They returned to Springhill to raise their family where Pleaman passed in 1956. She loved caring for people and worked at the nursing home and the hospital. She was a past member of the Pythian Sisters and a member of the St. Andrew's Wesley United Church. She was very close to her family and friends and enjoyed time at the cottage. Many community members benefited from her kindness and her hospitality.
She will be sadly missed by her daughters; Linda (Ronald) Greenhow, Springhill, Pat Calder, Oxford, NS, Marlene Knowlton (Robert Currell), Springhill; 7 grandchildren, Paul, Gary, Dana, Nadia, Crystal, Jeff and Brent; 5 great grandchildren; brother Glen Beaton, New Canaan.
She was predeceased by her husband Pleaman Edward Pyke; her son Marvin Edward Pyke; brothers, Halton, Alvin, Joseph, Marvin and Fred; sister, Cora Mansfield.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the A H Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane St., Springhill, NS (902-597-2361) where visiting hours will take place on Tuesday from 4 pm until 6 pm. The funeral service will be held at the St. Andrew's Wesley United Church, Springhill, on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at 2 pm, the Reverend Wayne McCarther officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillside Cemetery.
