It is with great sadness that the family of the late Martha Janes announce her passing on Sunday, 27 May 2012, Palliative Care Unit, Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Corner Brook, NL, at the age of 90 years. Martha was born to Samuel and Mary (Rowsell) Bignell, on 04 August 1921 in Leading Tickles, NL. Her family moved to Badger, NL, and later in life, Martha moved to Deer Lake where she met and married James Roland Janes. Martha was a faithful follower of the Salvation Army and slipped away peacefully to begin her journey. Left with fond and loving memories and to celebrate her life are her children: Winston (Louise), Catherine (Dennis) Seabrook, Marilyn (Bud) MacDonald, all of Deer Lake, NL, Robert (Wanda), Kentville, NS and Rick (Tara), Edmonton, AB, 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, two sisters: Jean Noel (Deer Lake Manor, Deer Lake, NL) and Dorothy Andrews (Kingston, ON), sisters-in-law: Helen Bignell (Carleton Place, ON), Naomi (Ronald) Yates and Elizabeth Rumbolt both residing in Deer Lake, NL, Effie Coderre and Jessie (Newman) Neal (USA); brothers-in-law: Charles Janes (Deer Lake, NL), as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Also her many friends and staffs at the Deer Lake Manor, Deer Lake, NL and Palliative Care Unit and 3rd floor, Western Memorial Hospital, Corner Brook, NL. Martha was predeceased by her husband James Roland in 2008, her parents Samuel and Mary (nee Rowsell), her-in-laws, Henry and Catherine (nee Goosney) Janes; brother Gordon Bignell, sisters: Gladys Lush-Harvey, Julie Pardy-Ball, Violet Bignell, Francis Pollett; brothers-in-law: Oliver Lush, Jerry Harvey, Raymond Ball, Maxwell Pardy, Ernest Pollett, Robert Andrews, Clinton Heyne, Ernie Coderre, Garfield Rumbolt, George Janes, sisters-in-law: Mary Heyne, Mary Janes, Melvie Janes, Annie Janes and great-grandson Mason Seabrook. Visitations will take place at Parsons Funeral Home & Chapel, 63 North Main Street, Deer Lake, NL, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, 29 May, 2012, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, 30 May, 2012. Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Thursday, 31 May 2012, at the Salvation Army Citadel, Church Street, Deer Lake, NL with Majors Wayne and Betty Ann Pike officiating. Interment to follow at the Salvation Army Cemetery, High Street, Deer Lake, NL. As expressions of sympathy, flowers are graciously accepted or donations may be made to the "Salvation Army Organ Fund", Deer Lake, NL.
