Carol Geraldine Merritt, 69, Spruce Drive, Truro, passed away Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009 surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Gerald and Audrey (Gibb) McLaughlin. She was a member of the Harmony/Camden United Church, UCW and also taught Sunday School there.
Carol worked at the Donut Shop and later at Ryan’s Groceteria.
She is survived by her husband Jack; daughters, Karen (Brian) McNutt, Halifax; Debbie Merritt (companion Dennis MacKay), Great Village; Heather (Perry) Reid, North River; granddaughters, Jennifer McNutt, Megan Leadbetter and Cassidy Reid; grandsons, Devan Leadbetter and Cody Reid; brothers, Peter (Donna) McLaughlin, Gary (Sheila) McLaughlin, Chris (Theresa) McLaughlin, Eric McLaughlin (Donna McNeil), Scott (Rose) McLaughlin; sisters, Bonnie (Bernie) Elliott, Joan (Wain) Fraser, all from HRM; nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by son, Stephen Douglas Merritt; niece, Robyn McLaughlin; her maternal grand parents, George and Ruby Gibb.
Cremation has taken place. No visitation or funeral service by her request. Interment will be held at a later date in the Crossroads Cemetery Valley. No flowers by request. Donations in Carol’s memory may be made to the Colchester Palliative Care or to the VON. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young St., Truro.
