STELLARTON – Enrico Alecce, 76, of Stellarton, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and close friends, Monday, December 28th, 2009, at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Enrico bravely immigrated to Canada from Italy in 1958 where he built a wonderful life for his family. He worked at Fiani Textiles for a number of years before becoming the first hourly paid employee at Michelin. Enrico enjoyed many years of retirement doing the things he loved. Enrico’s passion for growing grapes and making wine could be seen through the pride he took in growing a beautiful vineyard at Lochaber Lake. He was known for entertaining and well known for sharing his homemade wine. He enjoyed building and repairing various things and loved to spend time fishing, watching soccer and travelling.
Enrico is survived by his companion, Tina DiDio; daughters: Anna (Charles Dalby), Stellarton; Gisella (Peter Harrison), Waverley; Ida (Brian MacCulloch), Berwick; Patrizia (Troy Webb), Westville; three sisters; one brother; many nieces and nephews. Enrico will be sadly missed by all and especially his grandchildren whom he adored: Jessica, Carley, Andrew, Ben, Katharine, Thomas and Brady.
He was predeceased by his wife, Maria Rina (Russo) Alecce, and several brothers and sisters.
The family will receive visitors from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, December 29th, 2009, in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 30th, 2009, from Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church with Father Bill Rankin officiating. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery.
Donations in memory of Enrico may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation or to a charity of one’s choice.
