William Brydges
BRYDGES, WILLIAM - William Roy Brydges of Rothesay, NB, passed away peacefully at Bobby’s Hospice on May 28th, 2012 after a period of declining health at the age of 85. He was the son of the late William Horatio and Dorothy Marguerite (Davidson) Brydges. Bill was born in Saint John. He graduated from Saint John High School and served in the Royal Canadian Engineers until 1946. He attended George Williams University in Montreal PQ where he obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree. He worked as Product Sales manager for Stelco Inc. in Montreal and Ottawa from 1948 until 1974, and as Atlantic District Sales Manager in Saint John from 1974 until 1986. After retiring from Stelco, he joined York Structural Steel Co. in Fredericton NB and a subsidiary York Tek in Saint John as General Manager of Administration. Bill’s remarkable leadership qualities were appreciated by many, both professionally and by the many service clubs with which he was associated, including Probus and Rotary Club, where he served as president in 1976-1977. He was honoured with two Paul Harris awards for his outstanding level of service to Rotary. Bill was an avid curler and golfer, and was an active member of the Riverside Golf and Country Club for many years. He was well known for his quick wit and wonderful ability to tell a story, and will be missed by many. Bill is survived by his wife of 22 years Mildred (Prime); his beloved children Bill Jr. (Jackie) of Oakville Ontario and Linda Moore (Ralph) of Kitchener Ontario; grandchildren Will, Angela, Sarah, Bridget, Taylor, and Jenna. He also leaves to mourn Mildred’s daughters Barbara Jovaisas, Carolyn Shepherd, Laura Hendry, Andrea Titus and their families. Aside from his parents, Bill was predeceased by his only brother Robert.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Rd (646-2424) with visitation on Friday June 1st from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held from the funeral home chapel on Saturday, June 2nd, at 11 a.m. A private interment will take place at a later date.
