Sarah Reid
Sarah Gertrude Reid, 94 of Twin Rivers Trailer Park, Stellarton, passed away May 31, 2012 at the Aberdeen Hospital surrounded by her family.
Born in Stellarton, she was a daughter of the late Dougall and Florence Agnes (Gillis) MacPherson.
She was the last surviving member from a family of 13 children. She grew up in Stellarton and in the 70’s owned and operated her own restaurant in Blue Acres, with several of her family members working for her. She was a resident of Lower Plymouth for some 45 years prior to moving to Twin Rivers Trailer Park. She spent many happy times with her husband and family at their cottage in Lochaber.
She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church where she was a member of the CWL. She was a past member of the Ladies Altar Society at the former St. Gregory’s Roman Catholic Church in New Glasgow. After her retirement, she volunteered for several years with the Valley View Villa Seniors Help Line.
She will be remembered for her intelligence, wit, generosity and devotion to family and her unwavering faith. After a life well lived, she is united with her family members in a place of peace.
She is survived by her son, Bill Jr. (Jean), Lochaber; daughters: Margaret Worthen, New Glasgow; Dorothy (Mark) Wilson, Trenton; Willenia Reid, at home; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and one on the way by her namesake Sarah.
She was predeceased by her husband, William Albert, a daughter, Florence Arnold, great-granddaughter, Shauna MacBeth; sisters, Annie Mae Issacs, Beatrice Cornett; brothers: Murdock, Richard, Hughie, Angus, Joe, John, Herbie and Bernie.
Her remains will rest in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Chapel, Stellarton, for visiting from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Monday from Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church with Father Peter MacDonald presiding. Burial to take place in the parish cemetery.
