It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and sister Doris Sylvia Webber, age 87 of Amherst on December 24, 2009 at Centennial Villa, Amherst. Born in Hastings, N.S., she was a daughter of the late Avard and Violet (Rockwell) Fage. As a young woman, Doris and her husband Ralph traveled the Maritimes and Gaspe, Quebec on their Indian motorcycle and after retirement they resumed traveling to places across Canada and in the United States. Doris was employed at Woolworths and Canada Car and held the trade as an electrician during WW II . She was a member of the St. John Ambulance; the Amherst Golden Years Club and an active lifetime member of the Pythian Sisters. She was past most Excellent Chief of Pythian Sisters and past Rani of the Nomads of Avrudaka. Doris was also a member of Trinity St. Stephens United Church, Amherst and a member of the Hastings United Church Preservation Society. Doris was an avid bridge player and loved gardening, preserving and baking. Friends and family were always warmly welcomed at her summer home in Tidnish where there was always room for one more at the dinner table. Doris could always be counted on to lend a hand and she was among the emergency volunteers assisting with the Springhill Mine Disaster of 1958.
She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her daughters Cheryl (Steve) Degen of Springhill N.S., Janis (Geoff) de Gannes of Amherst and Leisa (Keith) Slade of Dartmouth N.S.; her brother, Allan Fage of Brookdale N.S.; grandchildren Kimberly (Darryl) Corkery of Halifax, N.S., Barry (Angela) Brownell of Beaverdam, N.B., Renee (Jay) Marshall of Ottawa, Ontario, Derek de Gannes of Tofino, B.C., Ryan Slade of Kananaskis, Alberta and Chelsea (David) Keirstead of Alloutte, Quebec. Also, great-grandchildren Ella Marshall and Austin Brownell; special niece Donna MacDonald and her family of Souris PEI as well as many nieces and nephews. Doris was predeceased by her beloved husband of 60 years, Ralph Webber; sisters Beryl O'Brien, Dorothy Thompson; brother Lawrence Fage; nephews, Randy and Bruce Fage. Cremation has taken place. Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Sunday, January 3rd, 2010 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (667-9906). The Pythian Sisters will hold a brief service during the visitation. Memorial service will be held on Monday at 2:00 pm at Campbell's Chapel with Reverend Susan Estabrooks presiding. Memorial donations in Doris's memory may be made to the Diabetic Association, Parkinson's Association or the Hastrings United Church Preservation Society. Family flowers only.
