David passed way peacefully in his sleep at Campbell River Hospital the morning of May 22nd, just weeks short of his 99th birthday. He was preceded by his wife Marjorie in January 2001.
He leaves to mourn his two sons: David and wife Anne (Campbell River) and Bruce and wife Cora (Shediac, NB) and extended Hay family members in the Maritimes, nephews Bill, Truro, NS, Bob, Harvey Station NB, nieces Mary, Riverview NB, Ginney, Moncton NB, Margie, Magog, Que., Bonnie, Sussex, NB.
He was pre-deceased by his brothers Bun, Truro NS, Bill, Sussex NB and sister Kate, Riverview, NB Born in Sussex N.B. Dave was the last remaining member of his immediate family. Dave was a Veteran of WW11, having served with the NB Rangers, The Carleton-York, and the Saskatoon Light Infantry Regiments in London, Sicily, Holland and Belgium. After the war Dave took his young family to New Zealand for 12 years and returned to Truro to join his family’s restaurant business which operated stores in Maine, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. After 10 years in Moncton Dave and Marge Retired to Truro N.S. then later to Campbell River B.C.
A devoted family man, Dave and Marge enjoyed many winters in New Zealand and Hawaii and summers in Campbell River, BC. Dave loved playing golf, jigsaw puzzles, and model ship building.
At Dave’s request, after cremation his ashes will be returned to NB to a special place he spent much of his childhood and had very fond memories of. A memorial service will take place in Campbell River and another when his ashes are returned to New Brunswick. The Family would like to thank all those who offered condolences and in lieu of flowers donations can be made to any branch of the Salvation Army, Dave’s favorite charity.
