Born in Amherst, he was a son of the late Thomas and Clara (MacKinnon) Rector.
Connie managed the Co-Op stores at Amherst, Tatamagouche and Amherst Head for 30 years,and worked with Atlantic Speedy Propane, prior to retirement. He was a avid gardener, cook and in younger years a baseball and hockey player. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Amherst and Knights of Pythias # 11 Amherst. In 1979 he won the Horseshoe Championship for Ontario.
Connie will be sadly missed by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy (Estabrooks); a son Bruce, at home; a daughter Carol (Bruce) Hoeg, Truro; 1 special granddaughter, Susan (Ken) Rushton, Oxford; 2 great grandchildren, Jennica and Jeremy; 2 sisters, Isabel (Ernest) Bainbridge, Moncton and Carol (Ken) Margenson, Fredericton. He was predeceased by a daughter, Gloria Irene and a grandson, Bruce Hoeg.
Connie\'s remains have been entrusted into the care of the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, Amherst (902-667-8777) from where the funeral service will be held Thursday, December 31, 2009 at 2 pm, Rev. Byron Corkum officiating. A time of visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 3:30 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm. Burial in the Amherst Cemetery in the spring.
