CHISHOLM, Bette – 85, Old Barns, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 31, 2012, at home. Born July 27, 1926, Bette was the daughter of the late Dorothy (Brenton) Seymour and was raised on Beech Hill Farm in Princeport by the late Howard and Carrie Roper. After graduating from Success Business College, she married the late Don R. Chisholm and they enjoyed 60 years of marriage. They settled in Old Barns where they provided a wonderful home for their son, Don B. and daughter, Debbie Rutherford (Gary). Bette loved children and was affectionately known to many as “Grammie Bette”. She was adored by her granddaughters, Holly (Kevin Loughead), Katherine (Jason Van der Linden); grandson, Robert; great grandsons, Cam and Alec Loughead. A wonderful friend and neighbour, Bette enjoyed community life. She was a member of Old Barns United Church and the UCW, a charter member of Old Barns Progressive Club, 4-H leader and Sunday school nursery teacher. Her interests were many and she and Don R. enjoyed going to the harness races, travels with friends and Saturday night card games. Along with her immediate family, Bette’s other family members include: Brenton Nelson, Marion Ruth Little, Carol Gillis, Kathryn Hamilton, Garey Brenton, Phillip Stead (Deceased) and their families. Special thanks to Dr. David Blair and all the wonderful health care workers who supported Bette over the past months. Bette’s family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m., Sunday, June 3, 2012, in Old Barns United Church, 2603 Highway 236, Old Barns, from where the funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Monday, June 4, 2012, Reverend Ian Harrison officiating. Interment in Old Barns Cemetery. Reception will follow in the church basement. If so desired, donations in Bette's memory to Old Barns United Church (Memorial Fund) or a charity of choice are welcomed. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro.
