NEW GLASGOW – Bessie Margaret “Betty” Colbourne, 75, of New Glasgow, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 4, 2012 at the Aberdeen Hospital after a brief stay in the Palliative Care Unit.
Born in New Glasgow October 2, 1936, she was the only daughter of the late Richard Herman and Ruby Grace (Trenholm) Hagen.
She worked at a few Pictou County businesses including The Evening News, Thompson and Sutherlands and Carlton Cards during her working life. She knew almost everybody she would pass in a mall or on the street. She enjoyed travelling with Donnie years ago and went south for a few memorable winter vacations with lifelong friends. Until recently, she was very outgoing and was involved with many people and groups over the years including the 55 Plus Club, the Ukulele Band, Abercrombie Community Center and the West Side Community Center. She was a volunteer her entire life with numerous organizations. She enjoyed her many drives and time spent with her special friend Jean Morrison.
She is survived by sons, Todd Colbourne, at home; Craig (Karen) Colbourne, Plymouth; grandchildren: Evan and Claudia; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Donald Alfred Colbourne, her parents and only brother, John Hagen.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow, from where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday with Rev. Dr. Jim Shaffner officiating. Burial will be in Abercrombie Cemetery.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society or a charity of choice.
