It is with heavy hearts that we the family, announce the passing of Dorothy Eileen Pynn on December 29, 2009 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Abertillery, South Wales, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Margaret (Novello) Matthews.
Besides spending time with her family, Dorothy enjoyed hobbies such as knitting and crocheting.
Surviving are daughters, Tonya (Wayne) Besso, and Joan (Robert) Jack; sisters, Joan (Capt. G.D.) Williams, and Gwyneth Prentice of West Mersea, England; brother Lionel Matthews of Western Australia; eleven grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Dorothy is predeceased by her husband, William; son, Lionel; daughter, Jane; one son and two daughters in infancy, and one grandson, Paul. She is also predeceased by her loving companions, Bonnie and Chico.
Visitation will take place from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009 at S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010 at the funeral home chapel, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney.
