Passed in: British Columbia, Canada

HEGAN, JAMES LAWRENCE Born March 2, 1927, died peacefully with his family beside him on March 4, 2008 in Kamloops, BC. Jim was a gentle man whose laugh was deep and pure. He was a loving husband and father who enjoyed life to the fullest and went to Blazers games until late in his final period. He is survived by Sheila, his loving wife of 42 years; Ken (Sarah) of Toronto; Colin (Maureen) of Kamloops; Tannis of Vancouver; sister-in-law Dorothea of New Brunswick; cousin David (Wyona) of Edmonton; and his much-loved cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Margaret, father John, brother Bill and sister Betty. Jim grew up on a farm in Alberta before moving to BC as a teenager. He worked in CN's Vancouver engineering department for 14 years. At age 39, he was convinced he'd be a bachelor for life until the day he met Sheila and noticed her fine badminton form. They fell in love and married soon after. They settled in Kamloops where he was a teacher for 22 years at Marion Schilling Elementary and John Peterson Jr. Secondary. He received a Masters in Education from Gonzaga University in Spokane. Jim was a true Renaissance man who loved to take on new challenges. He drew the blueprints for the family home, and was a painter, pilot, Kinsman, photographer, furniture-maker, guitarist, barbershop choir singer, and First Aid attendant for St. John's Ambulance. He will be deeply missed by all of us. Our family is grateful to Dr. Ben Anders for his many years of devoted care and for extending the quality of Jim's life, as well as the doctors and nurses at the Cancer Clinic, Emergency department, and 7 North of the Royal Inland Hospital. The family requests that any expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice Home, 72 Whiteshield Crescent, Kamloops, BC, V2E 2S9 in memory of Jim. A celebration of Jim's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 8th, 2008 at Schoening's Funeral Chapel, 513 Seymour Street, Kamloops, BC.
