CLIFFORD SMITH March 3rd, 1923 to March 4th, 2008 With great sadness we announce the passing of Clifford Smith on Tuesday, March 4th, 2008 at Cascade Lodge with his family by his side. Cliff had just had his 85th birthday on Monday, March 3rd, 2008. He was born on March 3rd, 1923 in Montreal, Quebec. At the age of 19 he volunteered for service in the Canadian Army. He proudly served his country as a member of the Canadian Grenadier Guards in 4th Div, 22nd C.A.R. He was a gunner/radio operator in a Sherman Tank seeing battle action in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. Wounded in action in February 1945 he survived to see the end of the war. While back in England waiting to return to Canada he took leave to go to Scotland to visit relatives. While there he met the love of his life Sarah. They were engaged before Cliff returned to Canada. Sarah arrived in Montreal in February 1947. They were married March 1st, 1947. Their first child Kenneth Robert was born in 1953. In 1956 their daughter Deborah Anne was born. Cliff and Sarah lived in Montreal until retirment. After a lifetime of hard work they moved to Kamloops in 1984 to be close to Deb and her husband Ron. Cliff will be remembered for his love of golf. He achieved the coveted "Hole in One" on October 15, 1999. Due to failing health, Cliff and Sarah relocated to Chilliwack in December 2006 once again to be close to Deb and Ron. Dad's last two years were challenging as he struggled with dementia. Clifford was predeceased by his parents Mary and George, his brothers Kenneth and Norman and sister Florence. He is survived by Sarah his devoted wife of 61 years, son Kenneth, daughter Deborah, son-in-law Ronald Angell. He will be missed by family in Canada and Scotland, friends and comrades across Canada.
