SMITH - It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Laverne Maxwell Smith on Christmas Eve 2009. Born and raised in Kyle, SK, Laverne farmed there for all of his life. He loved farming and in fact he even did his own combining this fall; still going strong at the age of 85! Being a farmer at heart he loved to watch things grow and planted a large garden every year. He was always so happy with the simplest things in life and he loved spending time with family. In the last few years he also greatly enjoyed fishing with his great nephew, DJ. We are truly blessed to have had Laverne as long as we did and he will be missed. Laverne leaves behind to cherish his memory his siblings: Rose Hogue and family; Cecil (Donelda) Smith and their family; Shirley (Ron) Barge and their family; Irma (Doug) Dyrland and their family; and Jim (Marliss) Edgar and their family. He is predeceased by his parents Hague Smith and Agnes Edgar, as well as his brother-in-law Bud Hogue. The memorial service for Laverne Smith was held on Saturday, January 2, 2010, from the Kyle United Church with Reverend Jeannine Cline officiating. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Laverne Smith may be directed to the Kyle United Church (PO Box 403, Kyle, SK S0L 1T0) or to the Kyle Community Sports Centre (PO Box 27, Kyle, SK S0L 1T0). Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Clements Rosetown Funeral Home, (306) 882-2662.
