John Roderick ‘Roddie Jack’ MacNeil, 62, passed away peacefully at the VG Hospital, Palliative care unit on June 10, 2012, following a year long battle with cancer.
He was born April 28, 1950 in Christmas Island to the late Mary Lucy (MacDougall) and Dan Joe MacNeil. He started his career in the automotive industry as a painter and body man. He progressed his career to being a rep for ICI Autocolor. He ended his career working for a long time friend managing Heritage Car Star in Bayers Lake. He worked for many car dealers in the Halifax/Dartmouth/Sydney areas and was well known in the industry.
He had a love for sports, especially hockey and baseball. He was happiest being around family and friends and being around his grandchildren. He loved to cook and bbq.
Later in life he enjoyed travelling to Ontario and Florida.
He was survived by his wife, Jeannine (Warner); ex-wife, Rosemary; daughters, Tara (Wes), Jennifer (Ryan) and Melissa (Matt), Alberta; grandchildren, Abigeal, Brayden and Chase (Robinson); brothers, Michael, Christmas Island, James (Mary), New Brunswick, Eddie, New Brunswick, Melvin (Lucille), Ontario, Margaret, Ontario and Theresa (Terri) (Malcolm), Massachusetts; aunts, Mary Francis (Murphy) and Kay (Patripny). Many nieces and nephews and his wife's children, Dale (Warner), Michael (Warner) and Suzanne (Robinson).
He was predeceased by brothers, Alex, John Dan and Martin; sisters-in-law, Anne, Mary Jesse and Tina and brother-in-law, Joseph.

Visitation was held Thursday June 14 in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, Halifax. Visitation will also be held at Saint Barras Parrish in Christmas Island today (Friday, June 15) from 6-9 p.m. Followed by a funeral service Saturday, June 16 at 11 a.m. with burial at St. Barras Cemetery in Christmas Island to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either the palliative care unit at the VG hospital or to St. Barras parish in Christmas Island.
