BLANCHE McKENZIE

Born In: Willowbrook, Saskatchewan, Canada
Born: September 17th, 1928

Passed in: Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada
Passed on: June 16th, 2012

With laughter, love and fond memories we remember a lovely lady who passed away on Saturday, June 16, 2012 with family by her side.

Blanche was a sweet and caring Wife, Mother and Gramma to her family.

Blanche was born on September 17,1928 in Willowbrook, Saskatchewan. She moved west as a young girl with her family and took up residence in Heffley Creek.

Following graduation from Kamloops High School, Blanche worked as a bookkeeper at the Bank of Montreal, cook at the Waymark Cafe, but her biggest job was raising her 4 boys. Blanche met and married the love of her life, Don McKenzie on December 3, 1949.

They had four boys who will deeply miss their mother. Dawayne (Karin), Hal (Cheri), Don (Maureen), Brad (Deanna). Blanche had nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren whom she adored and loved to spend time with.

Don was in the Air Force so Blanche and Don got to see a great deal of Canada and numerous countries in Europe. They lived overseas for a few years, moved to Edmonton for a few years then back to Heffley Creek in the early seventies. Blanche and Don later moved closer to town and lived in Rayleigh before moving onto Westsyde.

No words can describe the love she had for her family. This was her number one interest but other interests included playing softball in her younger years, camping and fishing with family and friends, making crafts. Everyone has a craft, Christmas ornament or recipe from Blanche. She loved going to the meat draws at the ANAvets on Sundays and keeping in touch with her friends. She liked to watch hockey and her favorite baseball team the Blue Jays. She enjoyed watching her family playing ball at the Heffley ball diamond. You would often find Don and Blanche listening to the hometown Blazers on the radio.

You never left Blanche's home with an empty stomach. Mum had the biggest heart in the world and she will be greatly missed and never forgotten.

Many thanks to Dr. Paul Yanko and the kind nurses and staff on 5 North at RlH.

A Celebration of Blanche's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2012 in the chapel of Kamloops Funeral Home, 285 Fortune Drive.

In lieu of flowers, kindly make a donation in Blanche's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, which would be greatly appreciated.
