Dorothy E. MacAskill, 86, of Fulton Ave., Westmount, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in North Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Panthea (Burton) Chislett.
She was a devote Toronto Maple Leafs and Blue Jays fan. She enjoyed her summers at Lake Ainslie, playing cards and crib with her friends, going to bingo and the occasional trip to the casino. She was the heart and soul of a large family whom she loved to visit and reminisce.
She is survived by three daughters, Sheila Shaw, Indian Brook, Ann (Delory) MacInnes, Jersey Cove, Elizabeth (Ross) Dauphney, Little River, Cape Breton; three sons, Dan (Freda), Edwardsville, John, at home, and Robert (Judy), Westmount; one sister, Elizabeth (Stewart) Morley, Westmount.
‘Dot’ is survived by nine grandchildren, Sylvia, Sonya, Jason, Phillip, Leigh-Ann, Shauna, Adam, Kent, and Erin. She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband John Murdock; a brother, Henry; two sister, Vivian and Eleanor; a grandson, David and a son-in-law , Abie.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the Chapel, Monday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Brenda Drake officiating. Burial at Hardwood Hill Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
