BURKE, Helen Josephine — On Thursday, December 31, 2009, at the Placentia Lions Manor, our beautiful mother, while surrounded by love, went on to her eternal rest to be reunited with our father, Michael Burke, who passed away in May, 1972. Mom was predeceased by her parents Mary and Thomas Murphy, her sister Marcella Kelly and brothers Lawrence, George and Leo Murphy. Remembering with love and celebrating her life are her eight children and their partners: Mollie (Mike Dreaddy), Kathleen (Tom Maher), Eunice (Ray McCarthy), Gladys (Eric Parsons), Earl (Carol), Michael (Karen Yetman), Kevin and Irving (Alice Connors). She shared a very special bond with her 17 cherished grandchildren and their families: Kim, Keith and Jillian Dreaddy, Dwayne, David, Danny and Tommy Maher, Gina and Jason Burke, Jody Johnson, Nicole and Michael Burke, Dean and Dana McCarthy, and Jane, Burke and Murray Brokenshire. She also adored each and every one of her 14 great-grandchildren. Mom also leaves to mourn her sisters Gladys Burke (Jack) and Pauline Norman, sisters-in-law Elizabeth Murphy, Lorraine Burke and Emma Murphy, brothers-in-law Dennis Burke (Liz) and Edward Burke, her many devoted nieces and nephews, extended family and friends, staff and friends at the Lions Manor, and last but not least, her much loved “Puddy Tat.” Funeral arrangements entrusted to Maher’s Funeral Home, Placentia. Friends will be welcomed to visit the funeral home on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Visitation will also take place at the Church in Long Harbour starting at 11 a.m. before the service. The funeral will take place on Sunday, January 3, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Long Harbour St. Jerome’s Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Perlin Training Centre.
