NELSON, John William (Bill) June 19, 1924 - May 4, 2008 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bill Nelson on Sunday, May 4th, 2008 in Victoria General Hospital. Predeceased by his wife, Shirley in 1992 and his sister Yvonne, Bill is survived by his four sons, Jack (Nancy), Don, Larry (Helen) and Rick (Karen), his loving grandchildren Benj (Jordanna), David (Heather), Jeff (Jenn), Melissa, Amanda, Jesse, Kayley and Alex, and his two siblings Dee Bryson of Vancouver and Dick Nelson of Port Alberni. Bill was born inURevelstoke and raised in Port Alberni.U As a young man Bill moved to Kamloops where he met and married his wife Shirley and where their four sons were born. Bill was a Professional Engineer who became the City Engineer for Kamloops in 1959.UHe became the Regional Highways Engineer for the BC Ministry of Highways in Kamloops (under Phil Gaglardi) then moved to Nelson when WesleyUBlack became Minister. Bill was transferred to head office inUVictoria where he eventually retired in 1983. Bill was an avid golfer and long time member of Uplands Golf Club, a member of Rotary since the 1960s andUa supporter of the Victoria Symphony.UHe enjoyed traveling (especially to spend time with his grandchildren at Shuswap Lake), and playing bridge. Bill will be greatly missed by all of his dear friends in Victoria, Kamloops and Nelson. A celebration of hisUlife will be held May 31, 2008, 3:00PM at Uplands Golf Club in Victoria for friends and family to share their memories of Bill. In lieu of flowers we ask that you make a donation to the BC Children's Hospital in Bill's name.
