PIVA On Tuesday, May 13, 2008 Mrs. Rafaella Piva passed away peacefully at the Kamloops Hospice Home at the age of 86 years. She is survived by her loving family, her daughter Susan (Candido), her son Franco both of Kamloops and her three grandchildren. Also left to cherish her memory her sisters Evelina and Cheslestina, and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Rafaella was predeceased by her mother, father, sisters, brothers and her loving husband Ottavio. She was born in Montebelluna, Treviso, Italy on June 23, 1921, one of eleven children. She was raised on a farm in Italy; she had to learn early in life to mend for her dad and sisters. She and Ottavio met and married on September 10, 1949; from there they strived and saved for nine years to come to Canada, where they landed in Halifax. From there they came to Kamloops and stayed at Joe Piva's farm and then moved to Vendon's Room on Lorne Street. Then they brought the house at 955 Columbia Street. Mom loved music, singing, cooking and taking care of the family and her extended family. Mom had two children, first a son Franco W. then a daughter Lorraine Susan. She lived her life, full of life, love and laughter. She was blessed by touching a lot of people's lives either long term or short term. She has one son-in-law, Candido, and three grandchildren, Marco, Christopher and Justin. Our deepest gratitude to Dr. R. P. Farrell, the High Country Home Support, the nurses at Royal Inland Hospital and the staff at Hospice Home they all treated her like a queen. Prayers will be recited on Monday, May 19, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. in Sacred Heart Cathedral, 255 Nicola Street. The Reverend Father Tony Ackerman will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial at the Cathedral on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the family plot, Hillside Cemetery.
