TURNER, William Raymond July 1, 1911- May 15, 2008 Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Great Grandpa and Dear Friend It is with great sadness that we share the news of Ray's passing. He passed away peacefully at The Central Care Nursing Home. A long time resident of Kamloops, Ray was very well-known and admired for his many talents. He attended University at UBC and graduated in 1937 with a degree in Pharmacy. While at UBC he was proud to be on The Championship Basketball Team and was a respected athlete. A few years later, he became co-owner of The Mallery Drug and Corner Drug in Kamloops. As a businessman, he felt it was important to become involved in the community. One of his contributions was to serve as alderman on the city council. He was an active member of the Gryo Club taking on several positions including President, Lieutenant Governor, and finally Governor of BC and Washington. In 1936, Ray joined the Kamloops Masonic Lodge and in 1996 was given 60 years recognition in a special award ceremony. Ray worked diligently for the Kamloops Shrine Club and was President in 1970. His quick wit and natural talent for public speaking helped to make him much appreciated in all these organizations. Ray is survived by his wife Loretta, whom he loved deeply and enjoyed a happy marriage of 68 years. He leaves his daughter, Terry (Larry), son, Bruce (Barb) and grandchildren Mike, Greg, Christie and Adam and three great grandchildren Jordan, Alex and Jill. A Memorial Service for Ray will be held at First Memorial Funeral Services at 1155 Fort Street, Victoria on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. followed by a "Celebration of Life" at Somerset House, Fireside Lounge, 540 Dallas Road. Ray was a wonderful man, loved by so many and will be sadly missed but always in our hearts. We will never forget his "Big smile"!
