Christina Florence ‘Tina’ McKinnon passed away at the Glace Bay Hospital on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009.
A lifelong resident of Glace Bay, Tina was a daughter of the late Stephen and Josephine (Gates) McNeil. She was the last surviving member of her family.
Tina was predeceased by her loving husband, Gregory in 1990, her son, Gregor died Jan. 30, 2009.
She is survived by sons, Stephen (Fran), Halifax, and Clem (Linda), Glace Bay; daughter, Marilyn (Jerry) Pembroke, Ottawa, and Cheryl Eaton, widow of Gregor, Dartmouth. Also surviving are grandchildren, Sean, Kyle, Scot, Stuart, Tricia, Terry, Kenneth, Danielle, Alexander, Michael, David and Jessica; great-grandchildren, Rachel, Ella, Alexander, Kayley, Braden, James and Nicolas.
For many years, Tina was a very active in St. John’s parish. She was famous for her handiwork, beautifully crocheted tablecloths, embroidered runners, knitted afghans and dishcloths. She was keenly interested in current affairs; and loved a lively discussion. She was fortunate to have many nieces, nephews and friends who maintained close relationships with her. She will be missed by many.
At Tina’s request, there will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. John’s Church on Wednesday, Jan, 6 at 11 a.m. A reception, prepared by her friends at St. John’s, will be held afterwards in the parish hall.
