Gwen passed away peacefully and in the loving care of her family and the staff at the Marjorie Snowden Palliative Care Hospice in Kamloops, BC on April 30, 2008. Gwen was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, William A. Russell who passed away February 2004. Gwen will be greatly missed by her three children, Barrie Russell (Heather), Lynda Bell-Rivers (Ian) and Leslie Shaw (Len) and Gwen's grandchildren, David Bell (Amanda), Justin Daniels (Jessica), Crystal Daniels (Robert), Coby Russell, Tyson and Kelsey Russell and her great grandchildren, Donivan Bell, Eryn Bell, Laura Bell, Jack and Elsie Daniels. Many nieces and nephews from the Russell's, the Dance's and the Fournier's. "Billie" as Gwen was affectionately know to many will be missed by her Best Friend, Dorothy Meyers a devoted friend and source of encouragement till the end. Her fishing buddy for many years, Warren Bell, her oyster eating partner and confidant, her son-in-law Len. Gwen lived at the "Shores" for the last year where she made many friends and became especially close to her "Table 13 Group". Gwen and Bill raised their family in Burnaby, BC where they had many friends and family. They retired to Sulphorous Lake near 100 Mile House where they spent many years enjoying the outdoor recreational activities with family and friends, volunteer work, artistic endeavors and an active social life with the residents of the lake community. When health reasons forced them to leave the rural area they moved to Kamloops, B.C. where they remained for the rest of their lives. Gwen was the consummate Mother and Gramma and she spent her entire life ensuring that her family was looked after, and that they always had home made baking and each and every one had one of her hand made quilts to keep them warm and to remember her forever. Young and old will never forget Mom's, Gramma's credo for "Words to Live your Life by". Even in her final weeks, Gramma insisted on starting a new quilt for her next great grandchild due to arrive in August. On her final day as the priest held her hand he said to her, "Gwen you are the glue that holds your family together, they all love you so very much and so does God". Rest in Peace Dearest, your love will continue forever. A celebration of Gwen's life will be announced at a later date where we will share stories, laughter and I am sure a wee dramm.
