Passed away alongside family on January 1st, 2010 at the Health Sciences Centre after bravely fighting a long illness. Conrad Joseph Labonte, aged 63 years. Conrad, known to all as “Con,” was born on July 3, 1946 in St. John’s and was raised on Balsam Street. He was the second oldest of five boys born to Paul and Catherine Labonte. In 1967, he married Shirley Joy of St. John’s and raised three children. He worked for over 30 years at Newfoundland Telephone in a multitude of craft, technician and later management roles and frequently worked throughout the province and elsewhere in Canada. He worked at NewTel until his retirement in 1999. He later worked with Empowered Networks of Kanata, Ontario as an international project manager where he brought his leadership to Europe, Asia, U.S.A. and South America. In 2003 he set up Access Communications with his brother Paul for servicing Newfoundlanders’ communication needs at home. He is survived by his wife, Shirley, and three children, Conrad, Michael and Julie, as well as two grandchildren — Emma and Alex. He is further survived by three brothers, Paul, Guy and Andre; and their families, cousins, other relatives and many friends. Special thanks to the ALS Society of Newfoundland and to all that gave their support and help in any way. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation on Tuesday, January 5th from 12 noon to 9 p.m. and Wednesday, January 6th from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral mass will take place on Thursday, January 7th, 2010 at 11 a.m. from Corpus Christi Church. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or a donation may be made to the ALS Society of Newfoundland.
