Catherine Dixon (Waite) 1920 - 2008 It is with sadness we announce the passing of Catherine on May 27, 2008 at Royal Inland Hospital at the age of 87 years. Catherine will be greatly missed by her nephew Brian (Joanne) Waite of Ottawa, her niece Barbara (Mark) Orton, great-nephews and nieces; Scott, Leslie, Trisha Waite, Patrick, Shawna (Dallan Brooker), and Greg Orton. Also a good and long time friend Theresa Lidster. She was predeceased by her brother Frank Waite in 1969. Catherine was born in Golden, BC in 1920, while her family was immigrating to Canada and en route to Vancouver. She went to England in 1948 where she became a nun for a period of time then took her nursing at East Surrey Hospital. A few years later she ran a school in conjunction with the Catholic Church for learning disabled children. In 1968 she returned to Canada and nursed at Vancouver General. In 1970 she moved to Kamloops and nursed at R.I.H. for 2 years. Catherine then worked with the Interior Neurological Association and took over the program for handicapped children. After a period of time she became a care giver with a group home of about 5-6 girls. At this time she met Theresa and they both worked together with the girls. They also taught catechism on the reserve and at the Indian residential school. When she retired she took up painting and attended Cariboo College and received her art degree. Catherine was a caring person who always thought of others first, she was a dedicated Aunt and enjoyed a lot of time with her nephew, niece and their families. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Parish, 2797 Sunset Dr. Kamloops with Father Ford officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Catherine's memory to the Chris Rose Therapy Centre for Autism Society, 1111 Tranquille Rd. Kamloops, BC V2B 3J8. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Personal Alternative Funeral Services. 554-2324
