John Philip Weinard

Born In: British Columbia, Canada

Passed in: British Columbia, Canada

WEINARD Long time Kamloops resident John Philip Weinard passed away at Royal Inland Hospital on May 17, 2008, following a lengthy illness. John entered the world at High River, Alberta on March 20, 1929, one of four children born to Henry and Bessie Weinard. In 1937 the family come to Salmon Arm, British Columbia, where John attended high school, graduating with the Class of 1946. As a young man he sampled several occupations, including carpenter's apprentice, before deciding to enroll in the BC Forest Service Training School. Following a brief posting at Princeton, he was assigned the position of Ranger at Horsefly, BC in 1954. He married his wife Audrey in October 1955, and the following September welcomed the arrival of his only child, Karl Fredrik. In 1958 the Weinards transferred to Kamloops, where John took charge of the old Ranger District # 22, north of the city. A nasty encounter with a bear in 1961 failed to dissuade him from his chosen career, and John Weinard remained with the Forest Service at Kamloops until his retirement in 1983. His love of wildlife and the outdoors stayed with him, however, and much of his retirement time was spent in the forests and rangeland around Kamloops. An immaculate 1930 Ford pick-up attests to his other major passion, antique car restoration, and John was known in vintage car circles in Western Canada. A kind, honest and sincere man, he will be fondly remembered by his wife Audrey, son Fred, sisters Margaret and Marie, brother Robert, step-children Ron and Wendy, and many friends and acquaintances in the Kamloops area. John Philip Weinard was seventy-nine years old. There will be no service by request, but donations in his name to any accredited wildlife or environmental organization would be greatly appreciated. Cremation arrangements entrusted to Schoening Funeral Service, telephone 374-1454
