Cora May Matheson, age 84, of Falmouth, Hants County, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 1, 2012, in the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born on September 6, 1927, in Glace Bay, Cape Breton, she was the daughter of the late Crawford Clayton and Helena “Lena” May (Clyburn) Silver. In her earlier years Cora worked as a house keeper in Truro, New Glasgow, Amherst, Halifax & Windsor. She also worked at Moir’s Chocolate Factory, the Victoria General Hospital and Birch Hill Receiving Home. After marrying her husband, Gib she spent the rest of her life as a dedicated loving wife and mother. In later years Cora enjoyed doing puzzle books, listening to music, had a love for animals and maintained her sense of humor throughout her life. Cora was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by sons, William "Billy", Dartmouth; Gilbert (Krista Rhodes), Vaughn; Donald (Bonnie), Falmouth; Kenneth, Falmouth; Perley, Edmonton, Alta; Timothy "Timmy", Edmonton, Alta; daughters, Susan (Peter) Carvonan, Edmonton, Alta; Peggy Matheson, Windsor; Robin (Brad) Orr, Edmonton, Alta; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her husband, Gilbert “Gib” (2008); a grandson, Walter LeRoy Matheson; great-granddaughter, Isolde Faith Malcolm; brothers, Burton, Gardener, Wallace, Blanchard, Howard, Colbourne, and Harlis; sisters, Winnifred, Rhoda, Minnia, Minnie, Bell, Daisy, Janie, Ina and Lillian. Visitation was 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, July 4, 2012, in Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor. Funeral service was 2 p.m. Thursday, July 5, 2012, in Lindsay’s Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. E. E. Hill officiated, followed by a reception in the Lindsay Family Reception Centre, 184 King Street. Interment was held in the Centre Falmouth Cemetery, Town Road, Falmouth. Donations in memory of Cora were requested to be made to the IWK Health Centre Foundation.
