deVRIES, Teodora H. “Dora” (Harbers) -87, of the Shiretown Nursing Home, Pictou, passed away July 5, 2012 in the home. Born December 15, 1924 in The Netherlands, she was a daughter of the late Hendrik & Hendrika Smees. She married Johan Harbers on July 3, 1952, and immigrated to Canada. After settling, she worked alongside Johan raising their family and working on the dairy farm. She had a wonderful talent for gardening and loved doing crafts. She was proud of her family and as a proud Oma, she enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dora is survived by her daughters, Johanna (William) Dykstra, Scotsburn; Rika (Bruce) MacDonald, Scotsburn; and son-in-law, Barend VanVeld, Durham; grandchildren, Mark (Jennifer) Dykstra, Jason Dykstra, Cheryl VanVeld (Derek MacDonald), Brian (Jill) VanVeld, Julie (Scott) Perry, Brenda MacDonald; and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Hettie, USA; brother, John, The Netherlands; and several nieces and nephews; her step-children, Terry, Bram, Wally, Bob, Susan, Jeff, Barb and several step-grandchildren, all of Ontario. She was predeceased by her first husband, Johan Harbers (1974); her second husband, Andrew deVries(2002); her daughter, Henrietta “Hettie” VanVeld; sisters, Sina, Grada and brother, Gerrit. Visitation will be held 2-4, 7-9 PM Sunday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral service will take place 11:00 AM Monday from Bethel Presbyterian Church, Scotsburn, with Rev. Lara Scholey officiating. Burial will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. Family flowers only please. Donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society or Kidney Cancer Canada.
