DONALD BEATON
Passed on: June 29th, 2012
Don Beaton, a passionate cattleman, passed away suddenly on June 29, 2012. Don was born in Moose Jaw in 1939, and began his life-long career in the cattle business in 1954, working for the Mulvena family on their Rose Hill Farm. He soon branched out and became an auctioneer in 1963 and worked for the Moose Jaw Pool Livestock Yards. In 1970, Don founded the Assiniboia Livestock Exchange in a former CPR Roundhouse. He bought the S.C. Ranch south of Caron in 1974. In 1983, Don sold Assiniboia Livestock and retired to Armstrong, BC. Retirement was too slow for him, so he joined his brother Pat in Fort McMurray, where they had great success in a service company. Don also was a pioneer in marketing cattle for sale on satellite. For all his love of cattle, Don was also a real people-person. He was a very charming man who engaged everyone that he met. He inspired great loyalty from his lifelong friends. Don will be deeply missed by his sons, Darryl (Lori) Beaton and Mark (Delee) Beaton, Bob Beaton, his grandchildren, Melissa Brown (Jason), Matthew Beaton, Andrew Beaton, Brent Beaton and Jenna Usher (Duncan), and his two great-grandsons, Cody Usher and Mick Brown. Don will also be missed by his remaining brothers and sisters, Bruce (Barb) Beaton, Ron Beaton, Joan Cowling, Sandra Beaton, Evelyn (Gary) McDowell, Leslie (Carol) Beaton, Gary (Betty) Beaton, and Terry (Kathy) Beaton, and by his special friend Maxine Lister.
Family and friends are invited to share their stories of Don at a come-and-go Celebration of Life, to be held at the Rose Hill farm on Saturday, July 14th from2:00 - 4:00pm.
Good-Bye Cowboy - we love you!!
