GILMOUR GILMOUR, Allan McDougall of Kamloops, BC died on July 1st in his 87th year. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 51 years Peggy (Parke), and dearly missed by his five children: Bruce (Wendy), Ross (Andrea), Alison (Norman) Sawers, Daphne (James) Marvel, Elspeth (Darren) Cooper, and his eleven grandchildren: Sarah, Stephanie, Charlotte, Georgia, Bronwen, Malcolm, Audrey, Paige, Gillian, Andrea, and Stuart. He is also survived by his niece Winnifred (Jim) Latham, his nephew Ronald Lowe, his grand niece Megan Latham and grand nephew Steven Latham. He was predeceased by his sister Elena Lowe. Allan was born in Vancouver, BC on September 4, 1921. He was raised in Chase, BC and joined the Canadian Army in December 1940 and served overseas during the Second World War until his discharge in February 1946. He first attended U.B.C. and then he joined the B.C. Forest Service and spent the remainder of his working life in the forest industry, moving to Merritt in 1965 to manage Nicola Valley Sawmills.UIn his 17 years in Merritt, Allan was actively involved in civic politics as an alderman and school board chairman. Many happy summers were spent at Nicola Lake. He retired to Kamloops, BC in 1982 where he remained active with the Canadian Red Cross, the Kamloops Museum, and St. Paul's Cathedral. There will be a memorial service on Tuesday, July 8th at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Cathedral, 360 Nicola Street, Kamloops, BC. The family offers grateful thanks to Dr. Alex Leung and the staff on 3 West during Allan's final days.
