It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved son on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010. He passed away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Inverness, C.B., the youngest son of Iver and Dorothy Gillis of Coxheath, N.S.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Wanda (Harrietha) and siblings, Beverley Kennedy (Dave), Coxheath, Bobby (Elizabeth), Cole Harbour, N.S., and Wendy Richardson, St. John’s, N.L.
His love of computers started in his days at Riverview Rural High School and continued in his studies at UCCB (now CBU). His employment included various computer teaching jobs, as well as part owner in a computer store. The past seven years were spent as a trainer at Stream Call Centre in Glace Bay, where he enjoyed imparting his knowledge to his many classes. His work as a trainer also included trips to Chilliwack, B.C., Seattle, Wash., Austin, Texas, Sargents Bluff, Iowa, and Munbieu, India, where he trained trainers for Stream International.
Many hours over the past 30 years were spent with his father, installing and maintaining the varied sound and chime systems in the United Protestant Church of Sydney River. He also assisted his father in the writing of ‘The Last 50 Years,’ a history of the above mentioned church and producing this writing in CD form for printing by the publisher.
He was a member of the United Protestant Church, Sydney River, Sydney No. 84 Masonic Lodge, the Lodge of Perfection and Rose Croix, of Cape Breton Scottish Rites.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be Wednesday, Jan. 6 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Sydney Memorial Chapel. A Masonic service will be held at 6:45 p.m. on that evening. The funeral will be held in the above chapel, Thursday, Jan. 7 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Dana Feltmate officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to palliative care at Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
