Rajinder Kumar Verma
1933-2010
Rajinder Verma’s family is deeply saddened to announce his passing on January 3, 2010. After a valiant struggle, Raj, beloved father, grandfather, brother and uncle died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family. Raj always made his family a priority. He deeply grieved the loss of his first wife Santosh (“Toshi”) in 2002. He was able to find happiness once again and married his current wife, Neena Bassi in 2004. He is survived by his son Kamal (Marie-Thérèse), daughter Seema (Ed) and six grandchildren; Shaela, Krishan, Neelan, Taijal, Priya and Milan. Raj was born on April 02, 1933, in Eldoret, Kenya. He trained to be a professional photographer upon completion of his schooling. He began his photography career in Nairobi, Kenya. He left his brothers Subhash and Adarsh and immigrated to Canada in 1968. Due to the lure of his brother, Dr. Santosh Verma, he and his family settled in Swift Current. Here, he successfully owned and operated Verma’s Studio until his retirement in 1989. Raj was an avid golfer who was known for his unorthodox swing that only ever sent the ball straight down the center of the fairway. He was a game show junkie whose daily activities revolved around the time his favorite shows aired. He considered himself quite a gambler and he bragged about not having to pay for his yearly winter commutes to Arizona because he always won enough money in Las Vegas to more than cover his costs. Raj’s time with us was not long enough but his fight with pancreatic cancer could not be won. We pray in spirit and know in our hearts that he is admiring the plains of Africa from his heavenly home where his “Deal or No Deal” case contains the million dollars. The memorial service and cremation was held on January 07, 2010, at Hillcrest Funeral Home, Saskatoon. Arrangements entrusted to Bryan Funk, Funk’s Funeral Home, Rosthern, SK.
