
Willard Joseph Scharf
SCHARF, WILLARD JOSEPH - Willard (Bill) Scharf, 88, of Hampton, passed away July 14, 2012 at Ridgewood Veterans Wing, Saint John, NB. He was born at Wyoming, ON, son of the late Thomas and Agnes (Neely) Scharf. He was a veteran of WWII serving from 1942 to 1945 as a pilot officer with the 436 Squadron, two years in Canada and two years overseas on the Burma Tour. Bill was with the Saint John Ambulance Service in Ontario for a number of years. He moved to NB in 1959 and worked at the Irving Oil Refinery and Canaport until his retirement. He was one of the founders of the East Suburban Little League in the Hampton Area. Willard was an avid harness horse breeder and racer. He also loved music and dancing. He is survived by one daughter, Brenda Gourdeau (Steve) of Kingston; two sons, Phil Scharf (Joanne) of Bedford, NS, David Scharf (Debbie) of Tatamagouche, NS; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sue Pannell of St. Catharines, ON and Sandy Bell (Kevin) of Kincardine, ON; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Hazel Scharf; companion, Louise Turner; brothers, Bev and Jack; and step-sister, Mary.
Special thanks to caregiver Roxie and the staff of Ridgewood Veterans Wing. Cremation will be followed by a celebration of Willard’s life on Thursday, July 19, 2012 from 6:30 to 9:30 pm at the Moss Glen Legion, Peninsula Branch 62 located at 1356 Route 845, Clifton Royal, NB E5S 2B9. A tribute to an Air Force veteran will take place at 7:00 pm. The arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), Hampton, NB.
