We will miss him dearly but we could never wish that he suffer any longer. He leaves to celebrate his life, his dear wife Irene to whom he had been married for 60 years, and his daughter Marion (Gerry) Healey-Ogden of Kamloops, grandchildren Kyle of Langley and Angela of Vancouver. brother Earl (Marie) Messmer of Kamloops and sister Bea Henderson of Kelowna, sister-in-law Esther Anderson of Kamloops and Randi Olson of Brockville, Ontario, numerous nephews, nieces and their children in BC, Alberta, and Ontario, and numerous cousins and their families in BC, Alberta, and Ohio. Herb was born in Barrhead, Alberta to Ernest and Teresa Messmer, then moved with his family to Prince George. While in his 20's and during WWII, he helped build the runway at the Prince George airport and, after the war, was in the logging industry. Herb met Irene in Prince George and they married in Kamloops. Herb worked for the town of North Kamloops for many years. Eventually, he and his brothers owned and operated Kamloops West End Motors, Metro Sand and Gravel, and Tri Lake Readi Mix. Herb always had a passion for anything to do with mining. He loved to fish and spent many hours changing lures to catch the 'big one." They lived on the shores of the Shuswap Lake in Chase for 11 years, moving back to Kamloops in 1992
