Albert Joseph Auriat ("Bert") 1924 ~ 2008 Bert passed away peacefully after a short illness July 19, 2008. Born the 6th of 12 children on April 24, 1924 to Francois Auriat and Victoire Montes in St. Front, Saskatchewan, Bert left home early and worked to help support the family during the Great Depression. Bert is predeceased by his wife Simone, brothers Peter, Paul, Jean, Germaine, Marcel, Edward, Victor, and grandson David, and is remembered fondly by his six children, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and surviving siblings. Bert was one of four brothers from his family to serve in the Canadian Army during the Second World War. A proud veteran of the Italian campaign, where he served with the 17th Field Regiment, RCA of the 5th Armoured Division, Bert was seriously wounded during the fierce fighting at Monte Cassino in 1944. Returning home, Bert married Simone Fortin and raised six children while earning a living as carpenter. Bert had a wide circle of friends who will always remember his colourful personality, sense of humour, his generous nature and his passion for political debate, hockey and his garden. In lieu of flowers, Bert asked for donations in his memory to Kamloops Food Bank. Viewing will take place on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Rosewood Room at the Kamloops Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will take place on Thursday July 24, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Kamloops Funeral Home, 285 Fortune Drive, Kamloops, BC.
