LUCY LAURA WATKINS 1909-2008 It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing on August 13, 2008 of our dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, at the age of 99. Lucy was born on May 7, 1909 in Cransac, a small village in the south of France. Her family immigrated to Canada in 1913 and homesteaded in Saskatchewan. Lucy graduated as an RN from Vegreville General Hospital in 1930 and worked in Jasper where she met Bill. Lucy and Bill married in 1934 and in 1941 moved to Kamloops where they raised their six children. In 1985 they moved to Vancouver to be closer to their children and returned to Kamloops in 2003 to reside at Berwick On The Park. Lucy was very active in Sacred Heart Cathedral, the Catholic Women’s League and the Legion of Mary. For several years, she worked as a French interpreter for the Kamloops Law Courts. In 1965, after being away from nursing for 28 years, Lucy took an RN refresher course and worked part-time at Royal Inland Hospital until 1974. She and Bill travelled extensively and spent many winters in Hawaii. Lucy was an avid gardener while in Kamloops and after moving to Vancouver, she enjoyed daily walks on the seawall and took up swimming on a regular basis. Lucy’s greatest joy and treasures were her children. Lucy is predeceased by her son John in 1973 and her husband Bill in 2004. She is survived by her son Bill (Lana deceased in 2000); daughters Jeanette (Mel) Rahal; Mary (Mike) Murphy; Jo-Anne (Roy) Youwe; and Beth Watkins (Jack Gordon). Lucy also leaves behind 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Our special thanks to Dr. Yanko for providing exceptional treatment to Lucy. Our deepest gratitude to the staff at Berwick On The Park for their loving care and compassion. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Cathedral on Saturday, August 23, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Hillside Cemetary. You left us beautiful memories Your love is still our guide And although we cannot see you You are always at our side Our family chain is broken And nothing seems the same But as God calls us one by one The chain will link again.
