In Loving Memory of Vincenza Giannubilo Born November 3rd, 1920 in Barletta Italy It is with overwhelming sadness that we announce the passing of Vincenza Giannubilo, the light of our lives, on Wednesday, October 22, 2008. While driving home from visiting friends in Kelowna, laughing and enjoying their 60 years together, Tony and Vincenza were involved in a serious car accident, and Vincenza passed away later that day as a result of injuries received in the crash. Vincenza was born in 1920 in Barletta, Italy, never knew her parents and was adopted into a family in Serracapriola, Italy at a very young age. After a hard life she met and married Antonio in 1948 and had a son Casimiro in 1950. That same year Antonio immigrated to Canada to begin a new life for them, while Vincenza and her young son remained behind in Italy. Finally in 1955 Vincenza and son made the long journey to Canada alone via ship from Italy to Halifax then via train to Nelson, B.C. where she was greeted by her husband. Then it was a short trip by car to Trail to begin their new life together. New joys arrived in 1956 when daughter Anna Maria was born, and again in 1958 when daughter Maria Luisa was born. Vincenza quickly made new friends and soon showed her true colours as an unselfish, nurturing, and loving friend and fiercely dedicated mother, always thinking about family and friends before herself. Vincenza has physically left our presence but she lives on in our hearts, soul and memories. Left behind to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are her loving husband Antonio, son Casimiro (Alev), and daughters Anna (Gord) and Maria Luisa (Andy) along with 6 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Prayers will be recited in Holy Family Parish Church, 2797 Sunset Drive, Kamloops, on Thursday, October 30th, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. The Reverand Father Lawrence MacLennan will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Family Parish Church on Friday, October 31st at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will take place at Sage Valley Mausoleum, Hillside Cemetary, followed by a reception at Holy Family Parish.
