PICTOU – Russell MacGregor Crowe, 77, of Elm St., Pictou, passed away January 6, 2010, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Pictou, he was a son of the late Arthur and Marion (Gordon) Crowe.
As a young man, Russell joined the Army, serving in Korea with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, where his unit received a Presidential Citation from the President of the United States. He was discharged and re-enlisted with the Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers, serving in Germany. Upon leaving the service, he became an iron worker, working all over North America for over 50 years. Russell was a proud member of both the American and Canadian Legions.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Langille); son, Carl, Fort McMurray, Alberta; grandson, Jason, Burlington, Ontario; four step-children; sisters, Jean Stensrud, New Glasgow; Sharon Barkhouse, Pictou; brother, Douglas, Vancouver, British Columbia; many nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation by request. Funeral service will take place 2 p.m. Sunday from the McLaren Funeral Home Chapel, Pictou, with Rev. Steven Webb officiating. Burial will follow in Seaview Cemetery.
Donations in his memory may be made to Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital, Tatamagouche, or the Lung Association.
