Passed in: British Columbia, Canada

PENNER On Saturday, February 7th, 2009 Arthur "Art" Campbell Penner passed away peacefully at the age of 71 years old. Art will be lovingly remembered by his wife June of 46 years, daughters Tammy (Bob) and Muriel. Also left to cherish his memory is his grandson Chase. Predeceased by Dorothy & Peter Penner (mother and father), Merle MacAleer (sister), Kay O'Handley (sister), John Penner (brother) and Roy Penner (brother). Art was born on January 8, 1938 in Vancouver, B.C. He married June Friend in 1962 and their daughter Tammy was born in 1963. It was also at this time that he decided to take a job with Alcan, and moved his small family to the Northern community of Kitimat, purchased his first home and had a second daughter Muriel in 1964. Kitimat held many different careers for Art. After Alcan he moved onto Canada Post and worked as a mailman. With Farwest Bus Lines he drove bus from Terrace/Kitimat and Prince Rupert. Eurocan Pulp & Paper and the Ocelot Methanol plant were his final jobs in Kitimat. In 1973 he moved the family to Terrace. At the Terrace/Kitimat airport he ran equipment for runway maintenance, drove truck for TriMac and Arrow and ended up working for Dawson Construction which led him to move the family once again to "Gods Country" (as he called it) Kamloops. He was sure to remind us whenever we would make a trip down the Coquihalla that he had played a part in the construction of different sections of that highway. He left Dawson and went to work for Kamloops Augering. Directional drilling took him all across Canada, the US and Mexico. The last years of his life were spent driving semi truck for Extreme Trucking and lastly for Rick Nikkel Trucking. His love of golf and horse racing was enjoyed with many friends and family. He held season tickets to the Kamloops Blazers with his hockey "Buddy" daughter Muriel. His only Grandson (Chase) was the "apple of his eye" and brought him great joy. His love of music was evident in his support for daughter Tammy's music career, and his pride shone through at all performances. In the spring of 2007 Art and June took a Vegas Vacation and he was fortunate to see 2 of his favorite artists - Elton John & Celine Dion. Art was forced to retire in March 2008 at the age of 70 due to health issues. Art was happy to have had many friends and family stop by the hospital over the last 2 weeks. The family would like to offer a special thanks to all the nursing staff on 6 North for the loving care of our Dad. We will miss you Dad/Papa/Art and send our love with you. A Celebration of Arthur's life will be held on Sunday, February 15th, 2009 between 12:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at the Penner home, 454 Garibaldi Dr, Kamloops, B.C.
