Robert Ernest Cassidy, 86, son of the late Ernest Johnston and Grace Margaret (Ball) Cassidy passed away peacefully at the Colchester Regional Hospital on January 8, 2010. Born in Biggar, Saskatchewan, Robert lived his early years in Pugwash, and moved to Truro with his parents when he was 15. He was a Second World War veteran, having served overseas. After the war, he returned to Truro to complete his education, studying at Acadia University and then attending McGill University School of Architecture, graduating in 1952. He returned to Truro and married his childhood sweetheart, Betty (Keddy) Cassidy. Robert designed many notable buildings such as the NS Agricultural College Cox Institute and Boulden Buildings, Truro Regional Library, and many schools in Guysborough and Antigonish Counties. He was a former deacon of First Baptist Church and also served on Truro Town Council. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. An avid sportsman, Robert enjoyed fishing and hunting all of his life and especially loved his fishing camp in Quoddy and spending time at the family cottages at Hart Lake and Folly Lake. He is survived by his wife, Betty Cassidy; brother, Michael (Jean); daughters, Catherine (Graham) MacNevin, Margaret Cassidy (John Ulrich); grandchildren, Rebecca, Robert, Graham Scott, Marc and Richard MacNevin all of Truro. He was predeceased by brother, James; sister, Margery; stepmother, Emma (Ball) Cassidy. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 12th from 2:00 pm until time of the memorial service at 3:00 followed by a reception, all in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro with Rev.
