It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the peaceful passing of Daniel Hastings McDonald, 79, on Friday, Jan. 8, 2010, at the Maple Hill Manor in New Waterford surrounded by his loving family.
Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Neil and Helen (McQuarrie) McDonald.
He was a former member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Dan was a retired coal miner who worked in #12, 26, Lingan and Lingan Phalen collieries for 42 years. He was a member of the New Waterford Pensioners Club, enjoyed playing darts, cards, gardening, and loved watching a game of baseball. He also had a love of cats as well.
Dan is survived by his loving wife, Mary (Bourgeois); and his children, daughters, Kathleen (Ralph) Luedey, Perth, Ont., Brenda, Saint John, N.B.; sons, Alexander ‘Sandyâ€, Hamilton, Ont; Joe (Donna), New Waterford; sister, Mary McDonald, New Waterford; brother, Regis (Veronica), Loch Lomond, N.S. Also surviving is his five grandchildren; three great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Wayne and brother, John.
Visitation will take place Tuesday, Jan. 12 from 7-9 p.m. in McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 862-7500. A funeral Mass celebrating Dan’s life will be held Wednesday, Jan 13 at 10 a.m. at the Parish Church of St. Leonard’s, Mount Carmel Avenue, New Waterford, with Fr. Douglas MacDonald officiating. Interment will be made at a later date, a luncheon will be held immediately following at the parish hall, 310 Convent St., New Waterford, all are welcome.
